Tens of millions in idle opioid settlement funds could soon be on the way to South Dakota communities battling addiction and drug-fueled crime.
The South Dakota Department of Social Services’ (DSS) Opioid Advisory Committee this week announced new guidelines for cities and counties to tap into about $80 million the state received through a U.S. Justice Department settlement with pharmacy manufacturers and distributors responsible for flooding American markets with highly addictive painkillers.
