Minnehaha County bumps up funding for The Link triage center
The county will increase its share from $400,000 to $600,000 to match the City of Sioux Falls. The Link serves people in crisis from substance abuse or mental health.
Minnehaha County will increase its contribution by $200,000 to operate The Link, a community triage unit for people in crisis from substance abuse or mental health in downtown Sioux Falls.
The County Commission on Tuesday agreed to the increase for The Link, which is a cooperative effort with the City of Sioux Falls, Avera Health and Sanford Health.
Commission Chairman Dean Karsky said they have the available funding and the contribution is bolstered by early contributions from a opioid settlement with pharmaceutical companies.
Karsky said the county has been lagging in its contributions to The Link, which is an inpatient, withdrawal and detox facility where non-violent patients can rest off the effects of substance abuse. The mission of the agency is to reduce the number of people who end up in jail or local emergency rooms, which lowers the overall cost to taxpayers and provides more humane treatment for those in crisis.
