Marshall County advancing $9.6M courthouse renovations with voters' blessing
Sheriff's Office will also see addition as part of project OK'd by commissioners after 2023 bond vote
A northeast South Dakota county is moving ahead with a long-anticipated, multi-million courthouse renovation project that will include new digs for its law enforcement operations.
Officials in Marshall County have signed off on a $9.6 million construction project endorsed by a public vote to modernize its century-old courthouse and add much-needed space for the county sheriff’s office.
Marshall County Commission Chairman Matthew Schuller said more space for the sheriff’s office has been an ambition for the county for years, but only became possible after voters approved a $5 million bond issue in 2023. That’ll cover about half the cost, while the remaining $4.6 million will be paid for with county funds that have been set aside for the work.
