Lincoln County to lower speed limits on some roads
Changes set for areas near Tea and Harrisburg
The Lincoln County Commission voted Tuesday to lower speed limits from 55 mph to 45 mph on several major county roads, citing increased traffic and safety concerns as growth continues near Sioux Falls, Harrisburg and Tea.
Commissioners also voiced frustration with South Dakota’s new 605 motor vehicle licensing system, saying problems with the rollout are causing delays and confusion for the county treasurer and her staff. The commission also received an update on the Safe Streets for All road safety plan.
Commissioners unanimously approved Highway Superintendent Terry Fluit’s recommendation to lower speed limits on three heavily traveled corridors. Recent county traffic counts showed more vehicles and increased turning movements, especially near city boundaries and new residential developments.
