Dems hold zero power in this state but he still wants everyone to blame them for the consequences of one party republican rule. “Anything that doesn’t blindly reinforce my world view is left/bad”
Completely what I was thinking. If publishing an opinion piece shows a slant, should we now say the Scout has a conservative bias due to publishing this letter?
Mr. Spaulding, as a liberal reading the Scout, I find the exact opposite to be true. I have frequently found the Scout to have a conservative bias and I just figured that's what you get when you live in a deeply red state. And I will echo what CivicsMatter said. Dems have zero power at the state level in SD and very limited power at any local level. If there are problems here, there is no valid reason to go after the 'liberals' as the reason for the problems. Maybe if things ever return to a more even keel politically in this state, you will see the reporting going after both sides more frequently. And if I was willing to take the time, I could go back rereading articles and give you examples of conservative bias in stories, but I have a life and a job, so maybe another time. The Scout also doesn't report on the bad behavior of my neighbors. You know why, because they have no influence on those around them, so no one cares.
As a former newspaper guy I’ll opine that The Scout is about as middle-of-road journalistically as I’ve found….and I’m pleased it exists to cover some of what the Argus used to report. And….considerable more fairly.
Yeah, my comment to the writer is: I don’t know what state you are living in, but Democrats don’t have the votes in the legislature to pass “gutless garbage”. Are you aware of that? So there is nothing to rail against really…
Please tell me what Democrats have done piss poorly as you claim. We have no clout in this state so nearly all aws that are made are always made by Republicans.
Considering South Dakota has so few elected democrats that I'm not even sure who the Scout would 'smack,' I'm assuming Mr. Spaulding is imagining a random democratic congressperson from another state as he writes this. I want news that tells me about the people who are elected to represent *me*. Dusty is obligated to each and every South Dakotan - AOC or Bernie or whatever liberal boogeyman Mr. Spaulding is imagining are not and while I'm sure our delegation would love local media to let them off the hook, I for one appreciate that we still get some coverage that is actually relevant to the people of our state.
Well, compared to Mexifornia, Somalisota, New Yorkistan and similar degraded states, yes, South Dakota is a reasonably 'red' state.
However comma if one studies a lot of votes - IN BOTH CHAMBERS - one will find the voting results are more purple.
A little research shows there have been Democrats with higher voting scores than over half of the legislators with an 'R' after their names....and some of those 'Republicans' were, in fact, registered Democrats who changed in order to fill vacancies by appointment of the past governor.
Information can be found on the CPAC website which covers the voting records of all state and federal electeds in all states.
Where do yours stand? Is yours true to his or her constituents' needs or blindly loyal to his or her donors and party only?
Asking for the 30% of our registered voters who didn't care to vote last November.

Exactly, its to distract from the fact that they haven't done anything of substance in years.

The Scout is definitely not a liberal cheerleader nor bias towards democrats 😂😂
