Friends and neighbors, we need to stop selling grain and buying DDGs (dried distiller grains) from POET until they remember who made them a success. POET’s decision (rumored to be Jeff Broin’s decision) to support the Sioux Falls initiative banning the construction of a modern new pork processing plant hurts Sioux Falls, hurts South Dakota, but mostly, it hurts farmers and those who invested in POET. Shame on POET!
He says Wholestone is "owned by local farm families". About 200 of them. These "family farms" have a 500 MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET for this one facility. (And they attack Broin for having money?) Gosh, I don't remember our little family farm having the ability to spend 2 1/2 million dollars on something like a slaughterhouse.
These 200 well-to-do pork producers are forcing their project on 200,000 citizens. They say they will build the slaughterhouse even if they lose the vote.
Perhaps they should "remember who made them a success". Consumers - like the residents of Sioux Falls.
So bringing this to a vote by the citizens of Sioux Falls is wrong and misguided? Get a clue. How about all farmers that would use this facility forfeit their farm subsidies into an account for future odor mitigitation.
