The 2026 Sioux Falls mayoral contest was thrust into the political spotlight this week as a lawmaker with eyes on City Hall earned public praise for his role in creating a new revenue stream for local governments in South Dakota.
But what Rep. Greg Jamison and Mayor Paul TenHaken are championing as a win for Sioux Falls — the latter championing it as property tax relief and the former another revenue tool — in the form of long-term budget savings could also stir headwinds among a conservative electorate wary of any new taxes.
