PIERRE – Here’s the challenge, foodies.

You and your team of up to five people have 60 minutes to prepare a three-course gourmet meal. Your team is confined to a 10-foot by 10-foot area. And here’s the kicker: your team doesn’t get to use anything powered by electricity. You get two butane burners to work with. That’s it.

You are judged by some of the top restaurateurs in the state. Not just on your food, but in how you prepare it. You’re judged on teamwork, appearance, sanitation habits and other categories.

“They’re judged on a lot of different components within this limited time frame,” said Seanna Regynski, who oversees the competition for the South Dakota Retailers Association.
