Former lawman gets three life sentences for Centerville murders
Jay Ostrem won't have chance at parole after killing three in 2024 shooting

A former sheriff’s deputy who also served as mayor will spend the rest of his life in prison for shooting three people dead.
A Turner county judge on Thursday handed Jay Ostrem three consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
The sentencing comes nearly three months after Ostrem was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder in connection to the 2024 shooting deaths of 26-year-old Paul Frankus, 21-year-old Zachary Frankus and 35-year-old Timothy Richmond.
“This sentence provides justice for the families of the three victims who we keep in [our] thoughts,” Attorney General Jackley said following Thursday’s sentencing hearing. “These complex cases could not have been successful without the tireless efforts of law enforcement officers and prosecutors.”
