A group of South Dakota farmers who have operations in several counties have filed suit against a chemical maker and its distributors, alleging they were sold a faulty herbicide.

The group of more than a dozen farmers and operations applied the chemical to their crops, resulting, they allege, in widespread damage.

The chemical brand in question, Compensa, is imported and sold in the United States by Sharda USA, a subsidiary of a global agrochemical company based in Mumbai, India called Sharda CropChem.

A federal judge Monday refused to block the implementation of a new law that went into effect this year in South Dakota that provoked the ire of pharmaceutical companies, leading them to sue the state.
