Leaders of South Dakota’s largest school district are defending themselves against criticism from lawmakers who say public education is driving up property taxes, arguing that state funding shortfalls and broader budgetary issues are the real problem.
The Sioux Falls School District Board of Education issued a joint statement this week in response to growing calls for property tax relief and increasing pressure on K-12 education systems. The district emphasized its commitment to fiscal responsibility while maintaining educational quality.
“As elected representatives of the Sioux Falls community, we share Rep. Bobbi L. Andera’s commitment to providing property tax relief for South Dakota citizens while maintaining the excellent educational opportunities our families expect and deserve,” the statement said.
Ten South Dakota inmates transferred to ICE for deportation
Ten inmates identified as being in the country illegally will be transferred from South Dakota prison custody to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement for deportation, Gov. Larry Rhoden announced Wednesday.
