Deuel County targeted for $378M gas-fired power plant
South Dakota Public Utilities Commission to consider facility near Toronto; community meeting slated for next month
A $378 million power plant that could light up more than 25,000 homes is on the drawing board for northeastern South Dakota.
Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) has applied to the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission for permission to build the Toronto Power Plant, a 145-megawatt natural gas facility planned two miles north of Toronto in Deuel County.
The project would include four combustion turbine-generators, a new 4.9-mile 345-kilovolt transmission line, a tap into an existing natural gas pipeline and a connection to a substation with access to the regional power grid.
