Never - not once had a Democrat lowered taxes or provided a succinct plan to reduce the burden on citizens. It's always the smoke and mirrors to get elected then do the exact opposite of what they've promised to get elected.

The post of M. Welsh proves this, in statistical fact.

Voting for the left at this point is directly supporting the same hypocrisy that landed us in hyperinflation in the first place.

Never is an overstatement. Yes, democrats generally use taxes to pay bills, but they have lowered taxes a few times. Revenue Act of 1964 aka the Kennedy Tax Cuts signed by Johnson and Tax Reduction and Simplification Act of 1977 signed by Carter,. https://bipartisanpolicy.org/issue-brief/u-s-tax-reform-timeline-1945-present/

Its funny because the American Rescue Plan Act and Inflation Reduction Act under Biden were tax breaks because the it was the IRS giving money back to the people, but then Republicans complained saying it caused inflation. Which was experienced worldwide.

Democrats tax and spend, I'm not saying they don't. However, Republicans are spending and

leaving that future bill to be picked up by the younger generations.

Naively, I have been surprised and disappointed that neither Rounds nor Thune -- both of whom have enjoyed a great deal of presumptive safety electorally (and are old enough to retire comfortably if and when they are ousted) -- have been unwilling to stand up more for South Dakotans and less deferential to party lines. The influence of money in politics (which consists of not only true campaign contributions, but also what effectively are something awfully close to bribes from lobbying groups) seems to have a terrific effect on where people end up, whether or not they may start out somewhere less than terribly partisan.

I’ll probably be deleting my scout account as all they post is left wing garbage. You replied to my earlier post where I called you an uninformed fool. I’ll stand by that. Only a fool would admit to being a democrat given their platform.Trans policies, immigration etc, etc. you asked where I was on Jan 6. I was watching a few idiots make fools of themselves at the capital. Where were you on May 31, 2020. You, an off duty state trooper, spoke at a rally that preceded a riot at the empire mall where rocks and bullets were hurled at my friends, Sioux Falls police officers. I’ve heard your mother is a gem. What happened to you Julien. Yes, you are a fool. Move to Minnesota, sounds like you’d fit in well there.

"Rounds claims President Trump inherited a cost of living crisis from President Biden. That is misleading. During President Biden’s final year in office, inflation was trending downward."

According to the US Government Bureau of Labor Statistics Website, a dollar in January 2021, when President Biden took office, was only worth eighty-two cents when President Trump took office in January 2025.

That's nearly 20% inflation in four years of the Biden Administration.

What's worse is that it was a self-inflicted wound.

The Climate Crazies in the Democratic Party intentionally drove up the cost of all forms of energy in the United States. Energy is a direct cost to consumers at the pump and in utility bills, as well as an indirect cost in the cost of all goods, since energy is necessary to produce and transport everything consumers need.

Facts are facts. If anyone is being misleading, it is you.

Check it out.

Thanks for the information. What policies or choices by the Biden administration do you believe lead to this? I see you said the Climate Crazies drove up energy prices, but how did they do that?

According to the EIA, US oil production has been on the rise since January 2021. https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/leafhandler.ashx?n=pet&s=mcrfpus2&f=m

Natural gas prices spiked in 2022 and 2023, but went down to 2021 levels in 2024. https://www.eia.gov/dnav/ng/ng_pri_sum_a_epg0_prs_dmcf_a.htm

Electric prices have gone up regardless of president, January 2021 to January 2025 it went from from 11.10 to 13.10 cents/Kilowatthour, so about 0.5 cents per year. This YTD its up 0.53, so basically the same. https://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.php?t=table_5_03

In addition, utility prices are regulated on the state level by the PUC, currently 3 republicans who would have had to approve any rate hikes. Xcel is requested a 15% rate increase this year https://puc.sd.gov/commission/dockets/electric/2025/EL25-024/Vol1/PublicNotice.pdf

You make good points.

I would have liked to have had you as a student in my Economics class at Briar Cliff College in the 1990's and 2000's.

I gave extra credit for anyone who would disagree with me and make a reasonable argument.

To answer your question, what I am saying isn't a secret, and the Biden Administration was very open about its goals regarding energy prices.

I'm sure you noticed the price of a gallon of gas for your car during that time, just as I did.

Coal fired electricity generating plants were shut down without adequate base load electricity generating replacements.

As you point out, Natural Gas prices spiked in 2022 and 2023, and this was at least partially because gas fired plants were the only readily available substitute for the coal fired base load electrical generation that was shuttered.

Inflation in this case is like an Anaconda swallowing a Peccary. It takes a long time for our Economy to digest a rapid increase in the price of something that is so fundamental to all production as energy.

Clearly, the price at the pump is decreasing, and other energy prices will at least flatten out, if not come down.

As always, the people most affected by energy prices are the poor and the hourly workers in our economy.

Next, in terms of impact, are those just starting out. Between Student loans, Housing, and the cost of food, starting a family is extremely difficult.

I recommend changing your message to one of optimism and growth. Study JFK, MLK, and RFK, and hone your message on that stone, not the grinding themes of resentment and division we hear so often.

Win or lose, if you take that approach, you will always be proud, and maybe someone at a national level will begin to pay attention. There's no reason a renewal of faith in our country can't begin in South Dakota.

Dakota Scout would be more apply named Democrat Scout.

And this latest Democrat to be given room to editoralize about policy is a joke.

Not a single Democrat can with a single ounce of credibility should be allowed to comment on "affordability",, every.

The failed "Inflation Reduction ACT ", which was basically a climate bill, which Demcrats admitted to,, is another joke. And any individual who states otherwise, either politician or journalist, is a liar.

Combined Inflation rate under Biden exceeds 20%. That's not going away, it's built into every price of every product.

So any idiot who claims after just 10 months that Trump somehow hasn't done enough is lying.

Do better Democrat Scout and Democrats in general.

How things look, not surprisingly, depends on where you stand. From my viewpoint, Dan, the Scout often seems to me too tilted toward Republican positions. Maybe that means in fact it's reasonably neutral. I regret that the country has evolved into the two-party system we have and, despite my own frequent bipartisan or non-partisan overtures, believe we would be better suited with something else. Maybe we could organize ourselves by eye color, height, or zodiac sign. Until then, I would just reassure you that from the "other" side, things look as biased in favor of those with whom you agree. Mediators often say if both sides leave mediation equally dissatisfied, the outcome was probably about right. Maybe the same is true for journalism. Best, Nancy
