Wouldn't exactly call the Argus competition anymore. Gannett Media took them out of the running long ago when they gave preference to unrelated national stories jaundiced with political bias instead of coverage to the news from rural communities in SD.
To each their own but so far as it goes, more SD residents want to know what's happening east and west river than they care to know about Chicago, DC or LA.

I had been an Argus Leader subscriber since the late 1970's! It was a newspaper then! Now it is the worst paper/billing department in history! I cancelled my subscription starting the end of April 2024! I got a bill for May, so I returned it with my written statement that I had cancelled the end of April and not received a paper since. Then in June, I got a bill for May, a charge for June and a late charge for not paying May! Again, another written not that I am not receiving the paper, owe them nothing and refuse to pay them anything! What kind of a business is this to have that mess! I wouldn't recommend that paper to anyone I know because of their terrible business office and billing department! I love the Dakota Scout, at least it has local news and the Argus was all about foreign countries, nothing local at all. Garbage in my opinion! Keep printing, I love it.
