A West River air war has commenced, and it’s taking place in the courts.

Black Hills Helicopters Inc. is taking rival Black Hills Aerial Adventures to court, accusing the company of poaching its customers by infringing on its trademark and cybersquatting.

Established in 2014, BHH is based in Keystone and offers helicopter tours of Mount Rushmore, Horse Thief Lake, Sylvan Lake and other attractions in western South Dakota. In 2019, the company was issued a trademark for the use of Black Hills Helicopters.

The company’s website offers direct bookings, and in its complaint, BHH says that 25 percent of its business comes from its website, www.BlackHillsHelicopters.com.
