Dow Rummel St., Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with Reverend Renae Boehmer, officiating. Arlette Jean Scherschligt, 97, passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2025. A lover of the social scene, Arlette never missed an opportunity to raise her champagne glass and share a laugh. She was born on December 23rd, 1927 in Sioux Falls to Henry & Edna Nerison and attended Washington High, where she met the love of her life, Lester Scherschligt.
Les & Arlette were married on September 6th, 1947 after his return from occupying South Korea after WWII. They started their life together in Vermillion while Les attended the University of South Dakota. They returned to Sioux Falls after graduation where their lives and careers flourished. Together, they raised four children: Stephanie (Gary Joyce) of Sioux Falls, Kevin of San Francisco, Jeff (Katie) of Sioux Falls and Scott (Deloris) of Rio Verde, Arizona. In addition to her four children, Arlette is survived by 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Family, travel, golf, tennis, board games and a sunny retirement in Arizona filled Arlette’s years and yielded a life of interest and adventure. She was a beautiful woman, always so well-dressed and loved to dance. One of her fondest memories was a trip she and Les took around the world on the Concord Jet.
We remember our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend fondly. She will be missed, but we all feel so lucky to have shared in her long and happy life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be directed to the Dow Rummel Foundation, Embe (YWCA) or The Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation.
