U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons, Attorney General Marty Jackley highlight cases in anti-fraud crackdowns
Federal prosecutors have filed a complaint against a contractor that won a nearly $19 million bid to install high speed broadband on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation, alleging the contractor defrauded the government out of millions.
U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons announced the Federal False Claims Act suit Thursday. The government alleges that Paul and Julie Brandenburg, along with their son, Matthew Brandenburg, stole more than $2.1 million with bogus invoicing and inflated prices.
Parsons, the state’s top federal prosecutor, joined South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley Thursday to announce a joint federal-state effort to combat fraud in government programs. The two pointed to revelations of rampant fraud in Minnesota as evidence of a national problem.
