Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, following complications from a heart condition.

Ilona was born on June 22, 2020, at Avera McKennan Hospital to her adoring parents, Max Kruse and Jessica Leffers Kruse.

Ilona had an enormous personality and carried herself with the confidence and dignity of someone well beyond her years. She was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy, loving fiercely and showing enormous empathy, but very willing to express her opinions and needs. Ilona articulated these things with a colorful and prodigious vocabulary. She felt things deeply, and everything she did, she did with purpose. She walked with her signature strut, with her long, beautiful hair swinging behind her. Ilona made a point of greeting anyone she passed in the school hallway and had a way of ensuring everyone was included and felt welcome. Her presence was impossible to miss, especially her voice, which could carry through brick walls. Ilona was absolutely hilarious, and not a day would go by without her making her parents laugh.

Ilona was a kindergartener at Pettigrew and “was a teacher’s dream to have in class”. As one of the youngest kids in her class, she excelled academically and was always willing to help her teacher and classmates. Ilona was a talented and passionate gymnast, training in the developmental program at All American Gymnastics. Her energy and imagination came through in her love of singing and dancing, even in her own little songs. She loved cruising around on her scooter, drawing with sidewalk chalk, and swimming. She loved to dance and was an enthusiastic team member of the Diamonds class at Champion Legacy Dance Academy.

More than anything, Ilona adored her big brother, Jameson. As an infant, Jameson was the only person who could elicit an ear-to-ear smile from her. If he wasn’t in the room, one of her first questions was always, “Where’s Jameson?” The two were inseparable and constantly in cahoots. Since they were so close in age, they could participate in many activities together, such as swimming lessons and gymnastics. Ilona made sure to let everyone know that Jameson was her big brother. Of all the roles Ilona cherished, being Jameson’s little sister was her favorite.

Ilona was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Denise Kruse, who loved her dearly and was an active part of her life.

Ilona is survived by her devoted parents, Jessica Leffers Kruse and Maxwell Kruse, and her beloved brother, Jameson Kruse. She is also survived by many family members and friends whose lives are forever changed by knowing and loving her.

Ilona embodied the spirit of Shakespeare’s words, “And though she be but little, she is fierce,” in everything she did. The void she leaves behind is immeasurable, but her spirit and energy live on in everyone she met.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for your support during this incredibly difficult time. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial strain on the family and allow them to focus on healing and honoring the beautiful life of their child. For donations, please click on the following link: GoFundMe Support for the Kruse Family.

A memorial service to celebrate Ilona’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A visitation for friends and family will begin at 9:30 AM at Miller Westside Chapel, located at 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57106.

Ilona’s Memorial Service will be livestreamed to Miller Funeral Home’s YouTube page. home in her sleep on May 29, 2026, with the love of her life holding vigil at her side. She was surrounded by love and entrusted her soul to God in peace.

Sarah was born on February 8, 1987, in Willmar, Minnesota, to Jacqueline J. Anderson and Steven G. Nosbush. She was an only child, though she was lovingly connected to a large extended family of half-siblings and step-siblings on both her mother’s and father’s sides.

She attended Washington High School, Class of 2005, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, Class of 2009.

Sarah devoted her professional life to public service as a federal employee with the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the United States Attorneys. She was proud of her work and her service to others.

A woman of faith, Sarah was formed in the Catholic tradition. She attended Holy Spirit Catholic Church and was also connected with Christ the King Church. She remained active in her faith and community throughout her life, finding strength and peace in prayer and Scripture. She also volunteered with the Alpha Center in Sioux Falls and was once employed there. In addition, she shared her faith by serving as a catechism instructor for 6th and 7th grade students.

Sarah loved to travel, especially to places near water—ponds, lakes, and the ocean. She enjoyed road trips and taking the long way home, finding beauty in the journey. She had a generous spirit and a deep desire to help others, often bringing light and joy to those around her simply by her presence.

She enjoyed sewing and many forms of crafting, and she cherished time spent with family and friends. Sarah also deeply valued time in prayer and Scripture with her husband, finding peace in quiet moments together—whether in the backyard, sharing a meal, or enjoying a simple picnic lunch.

In her final days, she often expressed that her husband’s embrace brought her comfort and peace similar to that of her pain medication, a reflection of the deep love and consolation she felt in his presence.

Sarah is survived by her husband: Herbert Donald Spivey II (known as Don); her mother: Jacqueline J. Anderson; her father: Steven G. Nosbush; her grandmother; and her extended family of half-siblings and step-siblings on both her mother’s and father’s sides. She is also lovingly remembered by a large extended family including many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 7, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Barnett-Lewis Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, June 8, 10:30 AM at Christ the King Church.

Celebrate a life with the whole community in The Dakota Scout. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Sunday, June 14, at Bittner Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell.

David Joseph Rumbolz was born December 2, 1947, to Ernest Rumbolz Jr. and MaryAnn (Zwinger) Rumbolz in Parkston, South Dakota. On November 18, 1956, Dave received his First Communion at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Father Joyce was his priest.

On November 19, 1956, Dave had brain surgery. He beat the odds but ended up paralyzed on his right side. Dave resided at the Crippled Children’s Hospital for 3 years. He learned to read, talk, write, and walk all over again. He was left with a stutter, which he was very self-conscious of, but ultimately he triumphed over the odds.

His biggest joy of all was getting to meet Captain Eleven. Dave loved that Captain and had his picture taken with him. Dave loved sports, and he loved to play baseball, tackle football, and made jump shots like a pro. He was up for a game of horse anytime.

His interest and knowledge of all NBA, NFL, and MLB players, scores, games, baskets that were made, their wingspan, along with their dates of birth. He would be able to tell you all of this, up until the night before his passing. He also knew the highest NBA scorers of all time and who were the tallest players. His memory was phenomenal.

Some of his favorite sports teams were the New York Yankees, Boston Celtics, and Baltimore Colts.

Dave also loved to travel. He had traveled from coast to coast, spending a lot of time in Virginia and Illinois visiting his brother Gary and his family. He loved Washington, California, Denver, Colorado, and Tennessee. He always did come back home to his roots, South Dakota.

Dave also worked many places, such as Rumbolz Conoco, Herters, Crippled Children’s in Sioux Falls, The Blind School in Denver, CO, and The YMCA in Sioux Falls.

Dave was so social, he loved to talk and loved company. He loved coffee with his buddies (most of them he now joins in Heaven for “their” coffee). He loved his Cathedral Square family, he loved his At Home family, and his Dakota Home Health family. His core family. He loved everyone.

Dave is survived by his brother, Gary (Cheryl) of Sterling, IL; sister, Diane (Jim) Suhr of Phoenix, AZ; sisters-in-law, Bev Rumbolz and LaRee Rumbolz both of Mitchell; 42 nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie Rumbolz Jr. and MaryAnn Rumbolz; brothers, Charles and James; sister, Deb Rumbolz; niece, Mindy Rumbolz; nephew, Steven Paul Rumbolz; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Effie Rumbolz; and maternal grandparents, Alfred and Ann Friedel.

Celebrate a life with the whole community in The Dakota Scout. Swyers Sr. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents and a nephew.

Ed was united in marriage to Elaine Kuschel on May 27, 1989. She was the younger twin to her brother, Jerald “Jerry” Rolf Fray (wife Carolyn), and had a younger sister, Linda, who passed away in 1990 from Multiple Sclerosis. Jeanette grew up on a farm south of Centerville, SD. When she was just 8 years old, she lost her father in a farming accident. She attended country school in Dalesburg in a one-teacher schoolhouse, where she and her brother were the only two children in the class, through the 8th grade. The family then moved to Centerville, where she graduated from Centerville High School in 1957.

Jeanette married Allen Morris Duerst on April 15, 1961, at 21 years old, at Dalesburg Baptist Church. Allen lovingly called her “Kid.” She was a stay-at-home mom while their daughters, Tamara “Tami” and Teresa, were young, and later began working at their elementary school for two years. Over the years, she worked at Lucas & Theme, a clothing store, and started her banking career with First National Bank in Pierre and Sioux Falls. She and Allen moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to be closer to their grandchildren, Aaron and Shane, where she worked at Bank West of Nevada. Throughout her banking career, she worked her way up from teller to management and ultimately to Vice President before retiring and moving with Allen to Mesa, Arizona, where they lived for 12 years. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Jamaica, Alaska, Mexico, and many other destinations until they moved back to Beresford - where Allen ultimately passed away from cancer in 2018. She and Allen were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Pierre.

After Allen’s death, Jeanette lived in Rapid City near her daughter Teresa, before moving back to Arizona near her daughter Tami, where she ultimately passed away. She went peacefully to be with Jesus on January 3, 2026, at 86 years old, after living with dementia in her later years.

Jeanette loved going for walks and reading, and she was known for her warm, outgoing personality. She was always very popular and had many dear friends throughout her life. Her kindness, generosity, and natural ability to care for everyone around her made her a beloved presence in every community she was part of.

She is survived by her daughters, Tami Ivers (husband Skot) and Teresa Parker (husband Jeff); five grandchildren: Aaron Parker (wife Kelsey), Shane Parker, Mikayla Murray (husband Chad), Kelsey Sampayan (husband Brandon), and Kody Ivers (wife Joy); and three great-grandchildren - Noah, Kaylie, and Kaladin. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Carolyn, wife of her twin brother Jerry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen; her twin brother, Jerry; her mother, Vina; her father, Rolf; her sister, Linda; her mother-in-law, Ella, and father-in-law, Elmer Duerst.

Jeanette was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all of her family. A memorial visitation will be held from 2-4PM on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Wass Funeral Home in Beresford, SD.

Celebrate a life with the whole community in The Dakota Scout. of the Lord after reaching the incredible age of 98.

Per Wendell’s request, a private service for the immediate family was held at Heartland Funeral Home in Brandon. Internment, with military rites, took place at the Brandon Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at Brandon Lumber, 403 S Main, Brandon, SD, 57005. Wendell requested that any memorials be directed to the American Legion in Brandon or Sioux Falls.

Leland “Wendell” Ames was born March 12, 1928, at Tulare, SD, to Louie and Reva (Roosa) Ames. Wendell grew up on the family farm, attended school at Tulare and was married to Betty LeGrand on June 12, 1949, in Huron, SD. Wendell was employed at Peavey Lumber in Redfield, SD prior to serving in the U.S. Army at Camp Breckenridge, KY, and in Ft. Hood, TX, from 1952-1954. He returned to manage the Peavey/Co-op Lumber Yard in Alpena, SD in 1954. Wendell and Betty raised 3 children: Ron, Connie and Tim. In 1967, they moved from Alpena to Brandon, SD when they purchased Brandon Lumber Company. They still own it today, 59 years later. Son, Ron, and grandson, Marcus, continue to operate the business.

Wendell was involved in many church activities over the years, including the positions of trustee and treasurer. He was a charter member of the Brandon Water Company and the Brandon City Council. He served in the Brandon Volunteer Fire Department for 16 years and was proudly a member of the American Legion. Wendell and Betty worked tirelessly to build Brandon Lumber into a thriving business that served the community and region with high quality products and customer service. As CEO, Wendell received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the SD Retail Lumberman’s Association in 1992 for 40 years of continuous service in the retail lumber business; and in 1995 he was named their Lumberman of the Year. Beginning in the 1970s, Wendell and Betty developed the Ames Subdivision in Brandon with numerous single-family homes.

Wendell is survived by Betty, his wife of 77 years; son, Ron (Kay) Ames of Valley Springs; daughter, Connie Tveidt of Pierre; and son, Tim (Marilyn) Ames of Burton, Texas; 7 grandchildren, Marcus Ames, Stephanie Knapp, Jerry Tveidt, Michael Tveidt, Lee Ames, Nicole Ames, and Andrew Ames; and 12 great grandchildren.

Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Reva; six siblings, Winifred, Lloyd, Robert, Shirley, Betty and Mavis; and his granddaughter, Jennifer Joy. Wendell believed John 3:16 with all his heart, so our sorrow is tempered with hope, as we await the great reunion in God’s House.

The family would like to thank the special caregivers from Avera Hospice who touched Wendell’s life in his final days, along with the caring team at Legends on Lake Lorraine. We are also grateful for Dr. Sam Zollicker and the staff at the Avera McGreevy Clinic in Brandon for their care and support over the years.

Celebrate a life with the whole community in The Dakota Scout.
